The Problem
Cats hide pain -- an evolutionary survival trait. The Feline Grimace Scale (FGS) is a validated way to score feline pain from facial features, but it requires expert observation and doesn't scale to home-screening or busy clinics.
The Solution
Built a validation-first Gemma 4 prototype that extracts FGS-relevant facial features from a cat photo and produces an explainable pain-likelihood prediction. Every prediction shows which features it scored and why, designed to support clinical judgment, not replace it.
